Kybella

 

Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells. It is primarily used for the treatment of a double chin by slimming and defining the submental neck and the jowls.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is made of deoxycholic acid. This naturally occurring substance destabilizes the cell membrane of a fat cell, leading to apoptosis (cell death). The body’s own immune and lymphatic system is then able to clean up and eliminate the damaged fat cells. 

As swelling resolves and the fatty tissue slowly decreases, the effect of Kybella can start to be appreciated after approximately 4-6 weeks. A series of multiple treatments (2-6) are needed for ideal results, usually spaced about 8 weeks apart.
